Who is Flowers Capital?
Flowers Capital didn’t follow a traditional path because I didn’t either.
I went from finance major to firefighter to residential real estate investor to building a company that connects investors with quality operators.
As a finance major, the last thing I expected was to start my career as a firefighter with the Cincinnati Fire Department. But the lessons the fire department taught me were foundational.
It was a career that meant showing up when people were counting on me and staying composed when circumstances changed without warning. As a lieutenant, I learned what leadership really means. It meant looking out for the people who depended on me and answering for the decisions I made. If things went wrong, I was the one getting the call from the boss. That accountability never left.
That career also gave me flexibility. While serving, I began investing in residential real estate. I started small, but I leaned in. I self-educated and read every book I could get my hands on. One property became several. I learned what managing properties actually looked like.
Active ownership meant dealing with tenant issues, renovations, and operations. It required serious attention. I learned that being a landlord is a lifestyle, not just an investment. That hands-on experience became the foundation for evaluating commercial properties, business plans, and the operators behind them.
With that real-world operational experience and a finance background providing the analytical framework, the transition to commercial real estate was a natural progression. But what drove it wasn’t just opportunity. It was the realization that investors deserve better access to quality deals and someone really looking out for them.
Flowers Capital is named after my grandfather, Sheldon Flowers. He was a World War II and Great Depression-era businessman from a small town in Kansas, who didn’t talk about integrity. He was integrity.
My grandfather was a perfect gentleman and someone you could depend on. He supported the entrepreneurs in our family and understood that sometimes people need to follow their own path.
Having a company that bears his name holds me accountable to live my values. It guides me in every deal, every relationship, and every decision I make.
